Sri Lankan Association in Scotland (SLAS) proudly presented the '2015 Sinhala & Hindu New Year Festival in Scotland' with a great success by all means. Many thanks to all of those who attended the event exceeding our expectations. Just as an indication, we made 4 trips to buy New Year Gifts for our little ones and also for grownups. We couldn't stop there, so we had to make the fifth trip on the day so every family attended could receive at least one New Year Gift of their own. Also, Venerable Rewatha Thero was very kind to provide us with some gifts to provide some children who turned up at the last minute.
Day started with a treat with a table full of all sort of Sri Lankan delights including 'Kiri Bath', 'Kewum', 'Kokis', 'Dodol', 'Weli Thalapa', 'Mun Athirasa' and 'Aluwa'.

Opening the event the traditional Oil Lamp was lit by Venerable Rewatha Thero the Chief Sangha Nayake of Great Britain, Venerable Sumanarathana Thero and all of the children participated. Venerable Rewatha Thero delivered a speech explaining the 'Importance of the Sinhala & Hindu New Year'. He also educated all the children regarding the behavior of the 'Solar System' and how the New Year's dawn connected with to the Sun.
Event was fun-filled and full of joy for everyone throughout the day. Loads of Traditional New Year games including 'Tug of War', 'Kana Mutti', 'Banis Kema', 'Point the Eye of the Elephant', 'Senagawunu Amuththa', 'Musical Chairs', 'Kiri Keweema' and 'Awurudu Kumari-Kumaraya' were the highlights. We would like to thank everyone who have supported us by various means to make this event a very successful one first time. A full buffet was served for lunch with delicious Sri Lankan food.
We also had 'Ceylon Supermart' and 'Senu Shipping' with their marketing stalls at the venue, which gave everyone a fresh experience.
Some of the feedback we have received were tremendous and very encouraging. We believe they are true testaments of the success of this event. Below, we have published some of the feedback that we have received.

First of all I would like to thank you all for organizing such a great event. It was our first event we participated in Glasgow and we were very pleased by it. It was very enjoyable all day around and the children had a good time and really liked their gifts. The food was very delicious too and overall the event was well organized. Looking forward to the new year celebration next year!
Thanks again!
Kind regards
